What’s this meeting about?

Water is as indispensable to the Southern California golf community as it is scarce and expensive – a juxtaposition of factors that poses challenges the game must meet if it expects to remain a vital part of Southern California’s recreational landscape.  We invite you to the Southern California Golf & Water Summit August 18 at Los Serranos Golf Club to learn how the Southern California golf community has been meeting these challenges, and more importantly, plans to continue meeting these challenges no matter what may come its way.

In addition, you will learn practical ways to continue delivering great golfer experiences while using less water.  Some but not all of the speakers scheduled to present include:

Deven Upadhyay, Assistant General Manager for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, who will provide an overview of the current allocation of water in the area and how the Southern California golf community and MWD can work together on water conservation initiatives

Dr. Bryan Unruh, who will provide insights into water use on golf courses in California and the Southwest Region, based on GCSAA’s Golf Course Environmental Profile: Water Use and Conservation Practices on U.S. Golf Courses

Justin Mandon of Pasatiempo Golf Club, who will show how to plan in the face of water restrictions, using several examples, including the forward-thinking water-recycling facility he spearheaded at Pasatiempo

Brian Whitlark of the USGA, who will demonstrate the benefits of converting to warm-season grasses without sacrificing golfer experience

Josh Heptig of San Luis Obispo County, who will talk about how the municipality overcame a water crisis at Dairy Creek and improved the facility’s bottom line

Dr. Matteo Serena of the USGA, who will bring to life the USGA’s long-term mission to help the golf industry better manage its use of water

We hope to see you at Los Serranos to share ideas and discuss how we can work together to improve the health of the game we all love.
